Target audience research

I looked in the comments on a Bastille video which has a narrative story but it requires the audience think about the meaning/meanings. Some people comment asking for an explanation which maybe suggests that they don't like this type of video.
However, a lot of people comment their interpretation of what the meaning of the video might mean.


These comments of people not being able to understand the meaning of the video supports Hodge and Kress's theory "short hand for producers." Genre conventions make it easier for producers and also the audience. They anchor the meaning so that the TA can understand it. If too many of these conventions are broken, the meaning can be lost as partially shown on audience feedback here.
