Research into Sara Bareilles' existing fan-base
This is the lyric video for "Little Black Dress" which is the song we have chosen to do. This one has 315,324 views which suggests she is quite well known and has a fairly large fan base. Also, the fact that so many people have watched the lyric video means that people actually like the song therefore would be likely to watch the music video for it.
The evolution of our logo
After we all decided on the right font for Raeyboome Records, we went on Adobe Elements 11 and removed the white and dragged the text onto a simple crescent shape. We both agreed that it looks simple and effective and we liked it.
GROUP POST - Logo research
We managed to find a font website online called Font Space (http://www.fontspace.com/) I experimented with different fonts and different colours until we all
agreed on one. These are a few of the colour and font mixtures we experimented
with;
We tried to go with blue and purple colour schemes as this is Sara Bareilles' colour scheme and we thought it would reflect the genre and artist well.
Analysis of ancillary products - digipaks
5 Seconds of Summer – Pop punk
The front of the digipak is a photo of the band. This is a
popular convention of CD covers as it will help people looking to buy the CD
know who the artist is and they may even recognise them from music videos. They
have an on-going black/ white/ grey/ red colour scheme throughout the whole
digipak. This is synergetic with their website, merchandise and adverts in
magazines. The colour synergy will also help audiences recognise the artist.
The back of the digipak is a photo of Ashton’s signature “punk rock’
hand pose. The photo looks as though it has been done by photocopying the hand.
The inside of the digipak is the lyrics of the songs. This
is a convention of digipaks of this genre and similar genres such as maybe Sara
Bareilles.
The middle page is a collage of photos of the band on stage,
in the studio, and just having fun. This is something we could think of doing
for Morgan however it would mean having to have a lot of photos of her in
different costumes, different hair and makeup and different locations.
The last double page in the digipak is the credits for the
songs and a ‘thank you’ message from the band. This supports the idea that
fans are able to get closer to the artist by buying their CD’s and watching
their music videos.
The CD is juts plain red with the artist's logo and the name
of the record company.
Underneath the CD they have their logo again in black and
white and their slogan “derping since 2011”.
The back cover of the CD is unconventional as the song
titles are usually titled in order. This idea has been used before by other
artists but I don’t think we would go against the conventions to launch our
star.

Similar artist music video research - 5 Seconds of Summer
5 Seconds of Summer – Amnesia
They have a shot where they have edited on the name of the
song in the same font as their band logo.
The lighting in this first setting is interesting and it
would be easy for us to do. I do like the effect of it however I don’t think it
will fit with the shot ideas we already have. We won’t discard it though at
this point, as we still haven’t storyboarded.
This framing is also slightly unconventional of music videos
as the singer is to the left. Although we will be using a lot of centre frame
shots to make Morgan the main attraction, I think a frame like this would work
well with our video, but maybe with a long shot rather than a medium close-up
like this one.
Then they have a 1 second shot of a car driving along a road
and it cuts to a wide shot of the band in the car which suggests to the
audience that the car driving along the road is the car that the band is in. We
could easily build representations like this with Morgan simply by having two
shots that will make the audience assume a certain idea.
This long shot of them looking and posing towards a camera
at a different angle shows them making new memories with friends. I don’t think
we will use a shot like this because our lyrics don’t really refer directly to
having fun, more that she is trying to get over her breakup.
I think we could use a shot of Morgan running toward the
camera but to suggest different emotions. Here, they are all smiling and
they’re running together so this just emphasises the on-going theme of them wanting
to have fun. If we were to use this shot we would probably do it to portray the
anger she feels.
A shot similar to this one would work well in our video as
we could use it to portray the different emotions Morgan is going through. We could also
film from behind a doorframe or something to suggest that we’re looking in on
her private life.
